Petrified Forest
The last two times passing through Holbrook, Arizona it was the wrong time of day to take the drive-through tour of Petrified Forest National Park. It’s recommended allowing at least two hours for a decent drive and hike through the park, so I only got a peek at the mineralized fossil wood outside the gates. Inside the on-site store there’s an incredible polished example of a fossilized tree stump, and the jewel colors occurring from minerals within.
This place is one of my major quest-destinations this summer (2010), so there will be plenty of new photos to post by September for sure. Most of these are details of the enormous fossils for sale on the grounds of a warehouse in nearby Holbrook, where all sizes of petrified logs and pieces can be purchased. Diamonds? hah! Fossils are a girl’s best friend…
